Christina Aguilera announces split from husband Jordan Bratman after five years

It's been a bad week for celebrity relationships.

Following news of Courteney Cox's separation from David Arquette, Christina Aguilera has announced the end of her five-year marriage.

On Tuesday, the Beautiful singer confirmed her split from husband Jordan Bratman, issuing a statement that read: "Although Jordan and I are separated, our commitment to our son Max remains as strong as ever."

Christina, 29, and 33-year-old music executive Jordan, who welcomed their only child in January 2008, are reportedly yet to decide whether or not to divorce.

A source told US magazine that they "are now living apart, and they will see how that goes."

So what went wrong for Christina and Jordan?

According to the insider: "They were very much in love. But over the last six months, it became clear they were more like friends than husband and wife."

The source also said that Christina proposed a trip to Italy in August to "rekindle their love, but it didn't help."

The couple were first introduced in 2002 when Jordan worked as a producer on one of the singer's albums.

Three years later, in Napa Valley in November 2005, they were married after getting engaged in February of that same year.

While their marriage might have come to an end, the source said the couple remain united by their two-year-old son.

"He is their main concern," the friend said. "Christina is doing her best to be a great mum.

"She has a lot to juggle, but she's learning how to make it work and balance it all."
