Pop star welcome for X Factor's One Direction as celebrity duets are revealed

It's that time of the year again. Ahead of the final X Factor shows this weekend, the remaining acts have hit the road to perform in their hometowns.

With a loyal legion of teen fans behind them, One Direction must have already felt like pop stars when they stopped by their old stomping grounds.

The boys – Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Harry Styles – are on a mini tour in the build-up to the final.

They have visited four different towns - despite not making it to Niall's native Ireland because of bad weather - including a special appearance in Wolverhampton, where Liam was raised.

While there, they received quite a reception. The quintet, accompanied by mentor Simon Cowell, performed an open-air set for more than 4,000 fans. But the excitement of seeing One Direction took its toll on some supporters.

Thirty five fans had to be treated for minor injuries, with the first casualty found more than three hours before the boys even took to the stage.

In another part of the country, Cheryl Cole - having already accompanied Rebecca Ferguson to Liverpool - headed to Malvern, Worcester with Cher Lloyd.

The 17-year-old - in Sunday's sing-off with Mary Byrne - stopped by her old school before performing a set near her hometown, during which Cheryl joined her on stage to dance.

And favourite Matt Cardle has also been connecting with his local fans. With mentor Dannii Minogue by his side, he went back to Essex for an intimate gig at his local pub in the village of Colne Engaine – where he used to perform on Saturday nights - before a big show in Colchester.

Meanwhile, the famous faces who will join the four final acts on stage as they sing for the X Factor crown have been revealed.

According to the Daily Star, Robbie Williams, Christina Aguilera, Rihanna and Will.i.am will be paired up with the hopefuls in an effort to help them win the show.

While some reports have suggested Matt will be paired with Robbie, who performed with runner-up Olly Murs last year, Dannii is said to be desperate for him to sing his last song with Christina.

An X Factor source said: "A duet between Chrsitina and Matt would be a magical moment – just like when Beyonce dueted with Alexandra Burke during 2008's final.

"Matt's voice is phenomenal and Christina can hit notes no one has dreamed of. "They would be a perfect pairing no matter what song they sang."
