Footie ace David is a winner with sick children

Little five-year-old Amelia Ahlsrom beams as she chats with one of the world's favourite sportsmen, the pain of her recent operation temporarily forgotten.

And it was the same with all the youngsters whom David Beckham met on a visit to Melbourne's new Royal Children's Hospital.

A few minutes with their idol and the young patients were soon smiling. Even the nursing staff and parents were not immune to the Beckham charm.

The mother of 19-old-month Allegra Fewson-Ward certainly appreciated having the footballer's attention for a few moments.

The hospital visit follows a rock star reception for the LA Galaxy star when he touched down during his team's tour of Australia.

On the pitch, 36-year-old David was also successful, leading his side to a 4-3 win against Melbourne Victory and being named man of the match.

It may be one of his last appearances for Galaxy, as the star is apparently deciding whether to move to French club Paris St German or renew his contract with the American team.
