Penelope Cruz welcomes a baby sister as her stepmum gives birth

Penelope Cruz's close knit family has just got a bit bigger after the 37-year-old actress welcomed a little sister last Friday.

The baby was born to the Spanish star’s father, Eduardo, and his second wife, Carmen Moreno, who is the same age as the Hollywood beauty.

HELLO!'s sister magazine HOLA!, revealed that the proud parents have named the baby girl Salma, which also happens to be the name of Penelope’s best friend, Salma Hayek.

Despite the coincidence, the magazine has learned that name was chosen simply as a favourite and wasn't after the Mexican actress.

As well as her superstar sister, little Salma can also count on two other siblings. Big brother, Eduardo Jr, who is Eva Longoria's boyfriend, and brunette Monica, who is a television actress in the family’s native Spain.

Penelope, who opted for smouldering vintage Hollywood style at Sunday's Oscars ceremony, will be a natural with the new arrival.

She and husband Javier Bardem, welcomed their own child Leo in January 2011, making the little boy a year older than his aunt Salma.
