Army barracks glow gold as Olympian Heather Stanning returns to duty

Olympic heroine and Army Officer Heather Stanning has returned to work armed with her gold medal from the Games.

The 27-year-old, who earned Britain's first gold with her rowing teammate Helen Glover, said she was itching to get back to her old routine with 32 Reigment Royal Artillery after time off preparing for this summer's Olympics.

Now back at her base in Larkhill, Wiltshire, a smiling Heather took part in a special ceremony on Friday, displaying her medal to her proud colleagues.

On been away from her job for so long, Heather commented: "I have missed working with the other soldiers and the camaraderie with the team here. I have also missed the day to day life of getting on with things."

She added that with the Rio 2016 Games in sight, she now has the task of "proving herself" worthy of a place in Team GB once more, but first on the agenda for Britain's golden girl is a tour of Afghanistan, which begins next year.
