Jamaican singer and songwriter Grace Jones was born Beverly Grace Jones in 1948.
At the age of 13, Grace moved to New York with her family and she soon began modelling, going on to appear on the covers of Elle, Vogue, and Stern.
In 1970 Grace moved to Paris, and she modelled for the likes of Yves St. Laurent, Claude Montana, and Kenzo Takada. Meanwhile she socialised with high profile friends including Jerry Hall, Karl Lagerfield, and Jessica Lange.
Just before her 30th birthday, Grace gained a record deal and in the UK she garnered several Top 40 hits ncluding Pull Up to the Bumper, I've Seen That Face Before, Slave to the Rhythm and I'm Not Perfect.
Grace jumped on the disco bandwagon but by the 1980s had transitioned into New Wave, and in 1983 was nominated for a prestigious Grammy award.
She went on to star in several films including the 1985 James Bond movie A View To A Kill opposite Roger Moore, and in Conan The Barbarian with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Grace has influenced numerous artists from Annie Lennox in the 1980s to Lady Gaga and Rihanna today.
