Joan Rivers 'resting comfortably' after hospital scare

Joan Rivers is recovering after reportedly going into cardiac arrest during surgery on her vocal chords.

The 81-year-old is now "resting comfortably" having been rushed to a New York hospital after she stopped breathing while in surgery in a Manhattan clinic.

Joan's daughter Melissa asked fans to "continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers" and offered thanks for the "overwhelming love and support for my mother".

The sharp-tongued comedienne was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital on Thursday morning in a critical condition after surgery at an endoscopy clinic on the Upper East Side.

She had been due to appear at a theatre in Red Bank, New Jersey on Friday.

News of her condition has prompted a number of well wishes from fans and stars, including her Fashion Police co-star Giuliana Rancic, Star Trek actor Zachary Quinto, and Courtney Love
