The 50-year-old star told the chat show host that flirting has got her into trouble in the past, saying: "I flirt with anyone - man, woman, animal, inanimate object. Anything to get the party going.

"If I flirt or fancy someone, I show off a bit sometimes and sometimes I get a little clumsy and I've actually hurt myself a few times." Elizabeth commented: "I've been to the emergency room probably half a dozen times for flirting."

The brunette comically told of how she had suffered a broken ankle after she tried to look 'cool' in front of a man but ended up smashing her face after getting her foot wedged down a rabbit hole. She said: "He couldn't really carry me so I had to be over his shoulder - fireman's lift."

The mother-of-one became the lead actress on The Royals earlier this year, making it her second foray into television after starring in Gossip Girl. Elizabeth took her son Damian, 12, whose father is American businessman and film producer Steve Bing, to the premiere of the TV show in March.

The star, who portrays the Queen in the TV show, revealed that Damian had spent a lot of time on set of the programme during filming of the first series. "Last summer, during his vacation from school he was on the film set and he loved every single second of it," she said during an interview on This Morning. "He adores it. He really wants to do it," she added, saying he's not sure if he wants to work on or off-screen yet, however with another series coming up he will have more time to decide whether to follow in his mother's footsteps.
