Do they still want to go fly a kite? Jane and Michael Banks have returned for the upcoming Mary Poppins sequel, and a first image of them as adults has been released. The pair, who are now being played by Ben Whishaw and Emily Mortimer, can be spotted holding the famous kite from the original film.

The pair are clad in 1930s-era costumes for the sequel with Ben sporting a thick moustache. The film, Mary Poppins Returns, will be set 20 years after the events of the original 1964 film. The official synopsis reads: "In the story, Michael and Jane are now grown up, with Michael, his three children and their housekeeper, Ellen, living on Cherry Tree Lane. After Michael suffers a personal loss, the enigmatic nanny Mary Poppins re-enters the lives of the Banks family, and, along with the optimistic street lamplighter Jack, uses her unique magical skills to help the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives."

The original Jane was played by Karen Dotrice, who spoke about the experience for the 50th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray of the film. Chatting about Walt Disney, she said: "He transplanted us all to LA for the duration of the film shoot, put us up in a lovely house in the Hollywood Hills with an indoor heated swimming pool, and at weekends gave us use of his private plane." Tragically Matthew Garber, who played Michael, passed away aged just 21 of pancreatitis.

A first image of Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins has also recently been released, which shows the star in a blue frock coat and purple hat while carrying Mary's famous carpet bag. Speaking about the role, Emily told Popsugar: "When [director] Rob Marshall called me, I felt simultaneously thrilled and frozen with fear. Nobody's Julie Andrews, so I know that much. So I'm just gonna do my own thing. But Mary Poppins is sort of emblematic of people's nostalgia in many ways. They're some big shoes to fill."
