Stars from the world of music Christina Aguilera, Gloria Estefan and Harry Connick Jr are just three of the names who will be putting on a show to celebrate the closing ceremony of the 2002 Winter Olympics this Sunday.
Rock band Bon Jovi, boy band ‘N Sync and classical music singer Charlotte Church are also on the bill alongside some of the world’s best athletes for the gala event at Salt Lake City’s Rice-Eccles Stadium, the organisers said in a statement on Monday.
“This will be a party for the athletes and for the world that could only happen at the Olympics,” said Don Mischer, executive producer for the ecermony.
Former Olympians such as skaters Kurt Browning, Dorothy Hamill and Katarina Witt will also be taking part.
The “Light The Fire Within” theme of this Olympics will be carried through to the very end, with a spectacular fireworks display spreading from the stadium throughout the city. The organisers have also promised an ultraviolet light production that they say will turn the entire arena into “one vast black-light area”.
As a parting gesture, the show will also make a nod to Turin, Italy, the city holding the 2006 Winter Olympics.
