Susan and Richard twirl into anniversary edition of San Sebastian Film Festival

Twirling with excitement, Richard Gere and Susan Sarandon made their arrival at the San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain.Arm-in-arm Susan, 65 and Richard, 63, waved to the crowd against the picturesque backdrop of the Bay of Biscay.

Now in its 60th year, the week-long-event expects to draw more of Hollywood's finest to the beautiful town situated on the country's north coast.Festival director Jose Luis Rebordinos said: "This year is a bit special because it is the festival's 60th anniversary. For this reason we have made a strong bet on major stars who can also bring glamour. "Amongst the host of big names are those who have been given the event's highest honour, the Donostia Award.Usually only awarded to one person annually, this year the festival is recognising Dustin Hoffman, John Travolta, Tommy Lee Jones, Ewan McGregor and director Oliver Stone for their body of work.

The event, which closes on September 29, promises to be as big, if not bigger than ever, despite the budget cuts brought on my the economic crisis in Spain.Organiser Jose adds: "We have to convince distributors that it is a festival that offers a splendid setting to promote of their films and so this year the features movies are a step-up from the more low-budget films that have been showcased in previous years"John Travolta and Oliver Stone are premiering their film Savages, whilst Ewan McGregor's The Impossbile, by Spanish director Juan Antonia Bayana will also take centre stage.Hope Springs, which stars former Donostia winner Meryl Streep is being screened, although Meryl herself is unable to make an appearance.
