Seven months after retiring from professional football, David Beckham has revealed he is a proud "house husband" who spends his time cooking for his children and doing the school run.

Once one of the world's highest-paid sports star, with annual earnings of £16 million, the 38-year-old is now taking a backseat while his wife Victoria concentrates on her fashion empire.

Asked by chat show host Jonathan Ross whether that makes him a house-husband, David  replied, "I really am. But I love it. I've been lucky, I've always been able to take the boys to school in the mornings and pick them up and make them dinner and things like that. So I do even more of that.""I'm able to take all three of the boys to school and then I take Harper to her school for a few hours and then pick her up. I'm kind of like a driver at the moment, I'm always in the car."

David  and Victoria returned to the UK from LA with their four children at the end of last year, and recently bought a house in the capital. When they married in 1999, Victoria was reaching the end of her pop career with the Spice Girls - since then, the 39-year-old has emerged as a top fashion designer; her company Beckham Ventures turned over more than £15million last year.

"She’s a great mother, of course, and she looks after the boys and Harper and that's our priority and her priority, but she works really hard. "She's a hard working mother and the success that she's had, she deserves."

David  and Victoria have four children; Brooklyn, 14, Romeo, 11, and Cruz , eight, and two-year-old daughter Harper. And already, it seems, they are taking after their parents.

"(Harper) gets her outfit ready the night before, and then she gets up in the morning, we go down to get her ready and she changes her mind. So then, by this time, we're in a rush," David revealed. "The boys are arguing over what breakfast they want, and I'm trying to get them ready as well.  "But then I'm in the room with Harper trying to pick out outfits and anything which I pick out, which I think looks great, she puts back in. She's two and a half. "She just says, 'No'. But anything that she picks out, she looks amazing in, so it's easy. "He added, "(The boys have) already said they're having tattoos done. And I said, 'Well, be different, don’t have any tattoos.' And they said, 'No, we're going to have one. We're going to have, 'Mum and Dad'.' So I can't really say no to that!"
