James Corden and Sheridan Smith awarded OBEs in New Year Honours list

James Corden and Sheridan Smith are among the famous names who will be awarded OBEs in the Queen's New Year Honours list. The former Gavin & Stacey co-stars will be among those honoured for services to entertainment and TV. James said he was "thrilled" at the news after the recipients were confirmed on Tuesday night. "I'm thrilled, overwhelmed and honoured to be recognised in such a way. My family are very proud. My mum is already fretting about what to wear."

The honour marks the end of an incredible year for the 36-year-old actor, who was confirmed to be the new host of CBS's The Late Late Show in September. James has also cracked America with a role alongside Keira Knightley in the 2013 comedy Begin Again, and will next appear on screen alongside Meryl Streep in the Hollywood musical Into The Woods. Sheridan said she was "overwhelmed" to become an OBE for services to television.

“I’m sincerely thankful and humbled to be recognised with such an honour. I’m overwhelmed and hope to continue doing the work that I love for many years to come” she said.The Cilla actress later took to Twitter to thank fans for their well wishes. "Finally... I can thanku for your lovely messages! All extremely surreal I know but thank u to those of u for your kind support. Huge love!" she tweeted.Also joining the 33-year-old actress on the list of honours is Dame Joan Collins, who will be honoured for services to charity. The actress was previously made an OBE for her contribution to the arts in 1997. Kristin Scott Thomas and Meera Syal are among the other actresses to be awarded an OBE, while actor John Hurt will be knighted to mark a stage and film career that has spanned more than 50 years.
