Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas held hands during a red carpet appearance on Sunday night. The couple put on a tactile display at the filming of Saturday Night Live's 40th anniversary show in New York.

A glamorous Catherine, 45, dressed up for the occasion in a floor-length black satin gown paired with jewelled hoop earrings and her antique diamond wedding ring. The actress held hands with her 70-year-old husband,  who was also smartly dressed in a black suit and polka dot tie.

The couple were among scores of famous faces at the Rockefeller Centre – everyone who has ever been an SNL regular, guest host, musical guest or worked behind-the-scenes was invited to attend the anniversary show.

Michael participated in the show from his seat, and asked questions as part of a Jerry Seinfeld sketch.

Other big names to attend the filming on Sunday night included Taylor Swift, Kanye West and Miley Cyrus. Father-to-be Justin Timberlake also collaborated with comedian Jimmy Fallon in a sketch referencing some of the most memorable moments of Saturday Night Live's 40 year tenure on NBC.

The couple showed they are as united as ever following their temporary split in 2013. They have made a series of public appearances in recent weeks, and were previously seen together at the Phoenix House Public Service Awards in January.

Catherine and Michael will celebrate their 15-year wedding anniversary in November. They surprised fans when they decided to take a break after 13 years together in August 2013 – choosing to live separately and attend events alone - but Michael's mother Diana Dill confirmed that they were back together in March 2014 after seven months apart.

In the months following their reconciliation the couple and their children, 14-year-old Dylan and 11-year-old Carys, have regained their strong family unit and spent Christmas skiing together in the French Alps.
