It looks like Lily James has found her Prince Charming. The Cinderella actress made a rare public appearance with boyfriend Matt Smith at the film's Milan premiere this week, and the couple looked totally smitten as they cuddled up together for their red carpet debut. Former Doctor Who star Matt, 32, was seen looking adoringly at the actress as he supported her at the screening for her new film. Lily, meanwhile, couldn't stop smiling as she posed in a high-neck floral gown alongside her handsome leading man.

The couple were first romantically linked in October, but remain coy when it comes to talking about their blossoming relationship. Although Downton Abbey star Lily has confirmed the pair are dating, she won't be drawn on further details. "In regards to your love life, you're just entering into a whole lot of pain if you talk about it," the Surrey-born actress told InStyle UK in January. "If you've never said anything, there are no sound bites to haunt you when you're crying into a box of Kleenex after it all goes wrong."

Lily takes the lead in Disney's new live-action adaptation of Cinderella – despite originally auditioning for the role of an ugly stepsister. "I thought it would be pretty interesting to play an off-centre character who doesn't have to be pretty," the 25-year-old told the New York Post. Nevertheless, a casting director urged her to read for the starring role. "I am completely aware of how lucky I am," she added. Lily – best known for playing the rebellious Lady Rose MacClare on Downton Abbey - stars in the film alongside Richard Madden, who has said the new version of the fairytale offers more gender equality.

"The original animated version was much more about this boy who comes to save the day, and this version is so not like that," the 28-year-old, best known for playing Robb Stark in Game of Thrones, told the Guardian. "It's the strong girl by herself and a young man coming together that makes the story, rather than a far more sexist view."
