Emma Watson has penned an open letter to Steve Carell thanking him for supporting the He For She campaign at the Oscars. The Foxcatcher star, who was nominated for his role in the film, chose to wear a pair of cufflinks supporting the cause to the Academy Awards. Emma, who works on the gender equality campaign with the UN, has shared a handwritten note in response on her Twitter page.

"Dear Steve Carell," the letter begins. "You were pure genius in 'Little Miss Sunshine' (one of my all-time favourite films), my brother became obsessed with you after 'Anchorman', I wanted to marry you or have you adopt me after 'Crazy Stupid Love', I hated that guy you played in 'The Way Way Back', and then you were mind-blowing in 'Foxcatcher', and I think you're so awesome and now you are wearing #HeForShe cufflinks at the Oscars to support gender equality. "Couldn't be more proud. Thank you. Love Emma x."

Emma, 24, also wrote a note to actor Jake McDorman – best known for his role in TV series Greek – who, like Steve, wore the special He For She cufflinks to the ceremony. Jake had previously shared a picture of the cufflinks on his Twitter page, writing, "So very proud to wear these #OscarsCufflinks by @MONIQUEPEAN to support @HeForShe & @EmWatson at the awards tonight." British actress Emma – a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador - gained universal praise in September when she gave a rousing speech about the He For She campaign at the United Nations HQ in New York, calling on men to support their "daughters, sisters and mothers", and fight for gender equality.

She then joined world leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos in January to speak about the movement. She was making headlines for a different reason entirely at the weekend, though, when she took to Twitter to address rumours she is dating Prince Harry. "WORLD remember that little talk we had about not believing everything written in the media?!" she wrote, adding, "also… marrying a Prince not a prerequisite for being a Princess."
