David and Victoria Beckham have been given the green light to commence renovations on their London home. The couple currently live in Holland Park, west London, in a mansion that is reported to be worth £31.5million.

The Beckhams, however, want to make "minor" additions to their house and plan to install air-conditioning in five rooms, including the state-of-the-art gym and the large wine cellar.

According to multiple reports, one neighbour has previously complained and protested that the changes would affect the "historic character of the Victorian house of the streets, my house included".

The local resident also expressed "deep concern" about the impact the building works would have in terms of noise, vibration, dirt and pollution.

However, it seems that Victoria, 41, and David, 39, have had their plans approved by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Council.

A report released by the council stated that air-conditioning was a minor alteration, and that the noise from the units would comply with the borough's criteria.

The couple, who have four children, plan to restore their Victorian property to its former glory

Jonathan Bore, the executive director for planning and development, is reported to have said: "The proposals would safeguard the special architectural and historic interest of the listed building, would preserve the character and appearance of the conservation area, would preserve the living conditions of neighbouring occupiers, and would have an acceptable impact on trees."

There is also a small mews house at the foot of their garden which will also be renovated.

When ready, the Beckhams' family home will consist of six bedrooms, a gym, study, office, playroom, cinema and large drawing room.

Victoria and David Beckham's redeveloped house will have an estimated worth £42million

David and Victoria, who have been married for nearly 16 years and have four children together, will occupy the first floor of the house. Their quarters will include a master bedroom, en-suite bathroom and large dressing room to cater for the established fashion designer.

The London property is expected to be worth £42million when completed and returned to its former glory.

The Beckhams moved back to their native UK from Los Angeles in 2013 after David retired from professional football. The athlete and his former Spice Girl wife sold their house in Hertfordshire, dubbed Beckingham Palace, for a reported £11.5million and relocated to London where their four kids now go to school.
