Ed Sheeran takes home Songwriter of the Year award at Ivor Novello Awards

Ed Sheeran scooped the Ivor Novello Songwriter of the Year award on Thursday. The British artist, who in 2014 saw his second album x become the best-selling album of the year, was on hand to collect his award, and later instagrammed a picture of the award.

"Honoured to have won songwriter of the year at the Ivor novellos, so so cool x", he wrote to his nearly four million followers.

Classical crossover act Clean Bandit also won big, taking home two trophies, for most performed work as well as best contemporary song, pipping hot favourite FKA Twigs to the post.

Jack Steadman, the leader singer of indie outfit Bombay Bicycle Club was also awarded for his song writing abilities for the group’s fourth album So Long, See You Tomorrow, while Manic Street Preachers - James Dean Bradfield, Sean Moore and Nicky Wire - took home the Ivors Inspiration Award.

Bob Geldof bought his daughter Pixie Geldof to the Awards as his date, as he accepted the Ivors Special Anniversary Award for himself and Midge Ure.
