Simon Cowell's partner Lauren Silverman stole the spotlight at the star-studded Together for Short Lives Midsummer Ball on Wednesday evening. The striking brunette channelled old Hollywood glamour in an asymmetric silver Alexander McQueen gown that fell to the floor, her hair styled in loose waves around her shoulders.Understandably, Simon looked incredibly proud as he posed next to mum-of-two Lauren – with who he has a one-year-old son Eric – smiling as the couple took to the red carpet at the event. He kept Lauren close by inside the event too as they mingled with the other guests, including his Britain's Got Talent co-judges Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden.

It was a big night for the music mogul; Simon is a patron of the Together For Short Lives charity and was hosting the ball in support of seriously ill children and their families. But it was down to another celebrity couple to present the evening's entertainment – Rochelle and Marvin Humes. Rochelle showed off her sensational figure in a plunging gown that also featured a thigh-high split. With her husband by her side, she helped compere the evening, which included appearances from Katie Melua, Stephen Mulhern and former Britain's Got Talent finalists Jack Pack.

Among those enjoying the show was Alesha Dixon, who made a rare public appearance with her partner Azuka Ononye to attend the charity ball. Mum-of-one Alesha, who looked gorgeous in a strapless floral gown, featuring a full skirt with pockets, was joined by her BGT wingwoman Amanda Holden, wearing a statement yellow dress that showed off her svelte figure. All three judges appeared happy and relaxed at the event, despite the furore surrounding recently-crowned BGT winner Jules O'Dwyer.

The disclosure that a third dog took part in the winning final act on Sunday sparked more than 500 complaints to Offcom from viewers, and on Wednesday, Simon spoke of his frustration at the situation. "The moment I found out I literally put my head in my hands," he told the Mirror. "I spoke to a lot of people after, and I did raise my voice. But it was mainly people owning up to it. "They felt embarrassed, they felt frustrated, they felt stupid but you've got to man up to this stuff. "The producers are absolutely gutted. I was so depressed for the show, for Jules and for the producers themselves, because they are not horrible people. They didn't think how it would appear. I was frustrated because I didn't really know what I was judging until afterwards so I felt like a bit of an idiot."
