Carole and Michael Middleton enjoyed a day out at Wimbledon on Thursday. The parents of the Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, watched Rafael Nadal's shock defeat to Dustin Brown during the fourth day of the annual tennis tournament.

The couple appeared to be enjoying their day out in SW19 and were seen clapping and cheering throughout the match. Carole wore a white and blue colour block dress and sunglasses, while Michael looked smart in a black suit and patterned tie, choosing to shield his eyes from the sun with a straw hat.

The Middleton family are big tennis fans and regular fixtures at Wimbledon. Carole and Michael's appearance at the tournament came as it was confirmed by Kensington Palace that their daughter Kate would be attending the quarter-final matches on Centre Court on Wednesday with Prince William.

The couple are such fans of the sport they are hoping to revamp the tennis court at their Norfolk home, Anmer Hall. William and Kate have filed a planning application with the borough council asking to relocate the tennis court at their rural retreat, with plans to move it to "an area of undeveloped garden".

Carole and Michael will attend Princess Charlotte's christening on Sunday

Carole and Michael's day out at Wimbledon is not the only high profile public appearance they are due to make in the coming days. They will also attend the christening of Princess Charlotte at St Mary Magdalene Church, Sandringham on Sunday afternoon.

The doting grandparents will join members of the royal family including the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall for the occasion, which comes just over two months after the birth of their granddaughter, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.

The special day will be captured on film by Mario Testino, who has been confirmed as the official photographer. While Princess Charlotte's godparents have not yet been announced, it is thought that Carole and Michael's youngest daughter Pippa Middleton could be named as Charlotte's godmother.
