Become an X Factor Judge

As one of The X Factor's greatest success stories, it could make sense for the One Direction boys to return to where it all started and become a judge on the popular entertainment show. The band have acted as guest mentors to contestants during recent series of the show, so it would come as no surprise if we see one of the group on the judging panel in 2016.

Becoming a dad

Louis Tomlinson is set to become a first-time father in 2016 following the news that he is expecting a baby with celebrity stylist Briana Jungwirth. Having confirmed the news and saying it was an "exciting time", Louis is sure to want to spend lots of time bonding with his baby during the band's hiatus.

Pursue a football career

Louis' bid to buy his beloved Doncaster Rovers football team in 2014 may have failed, but the 23-year-old has continued to support and play for the team on a non-contract basis. Could he trade his career as a pop star to be a professional footballer?

Become a golfer

A keen golfer, Niall Horan's Instagram is full of snaps of the Irish singer playing the sport with friends including world number two golfer Rory McIlroy. The 21-year-old acted as a caddie for Rory during the Par Three contest in April, and joined Rory for a round of golf in Toronto on Thursday.

Focusing on his fitness

Niall appears to be focusing on his fitness, sharing several photos from his hikes in Los Angeles and post-gym healthy salads and smoothies. "Nialler is eating healthy at the moment," he explained on Instagram.

Spend time with girlfriend Sophia Smith

Liam is now the only member of One Direction with a serious girlfriend, and he will surely relish the opportunity to spend more time with Sophia Smith, who he has been dating for two years. The singer often shares photos of his girlfriend on Instagram and described her as "the most beautiful girl in the world" in one sweet post.

Get into music producing

Liam recently admitted that he has been working on music for other artists during One Direction's most recent tour, telling Free Radio: "I've been writing a lot on the road at the moment, not for me, just for other people. I've been doing a lot of things, you know trying to get into the producing side of it which is pretty cool."

Pursue a solo career

It has often been speculated that Harry will pursue a solo career away from the band, with Louis Walsh claiming that Harry is "the star" of the group. Sony are reportedly "desperate" to sign Harry as a solo artist when the band take a break, but he may well have another career path in mind…

Harry is well known for his unique sense of style and even picked up the British Style Award for his dress-sense in 2013. The stylish singer is a regular fixture on the front row at fashion week, so could a career on the catwalk or as a fashion designer await?

Become a Hollywood star

Many reports suggest that Harry is eyeing up a career as an actor after already being offered a film role from Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein. "I think the guy is a movie star," Harvey told The Sun after they met up in January.

Take up photography

Perhaps a life on the other side of the lens could beckon for Harry, who often shows off his photography skills with arty black and white shots with his 12.4 million Instagram followers. Indeed the 21-year-old's profile picture on the social networking site shows him posing with a camera showcasing his passion for photography.
