Following his divorce from Lara Stone last week, David Walliams knew that he could count on his mum for support. The comedian was accompanied by his beloved mother Kathleen to his first high-profile appearance since he and Lara were granted a decree nisi by London's Central Family Court.

David, 44, was pictured holding hands with his mum as they arrived at the Noel Coward Theatre in London on Monday night to watch Nicole Kidman's new West End play Photograph 51.

The Little Britain star looked dapper in a dark navy suit and managed to put on a brave face for the evening. Smiling and maintaining his cheery disposition, David showed no signs of his recent divorce.

The mother-son duo were joined by other celebrities who attended the press night of the play, which tells the tale of British scientist Rosalind Franklin who helped discover the structure of DNA and died of ovarian cancer at 37.

Tom Fletcher and his pregnant wife Giovanna, who is expecting the McBusted rocker's second baby, were among the invited, as were Dawn French, Laura Carmichael, Penelope Wilton and Tom Daley. Leading lady Nicole was supported by her husband Keith Urban.

After the play the stars headed to the nearby National Portrait Gallery for the afterparty, where David and his mum Kathleen were later pictured exiting, again sweetly holding hands.

David's appearance comes just a few days after his ex-wife Lara made her debut as a newly single woman. On Friday night, just one day after her divorce was granted, the Dutch model attended the Givenchy spring/summer 2016 show at New York Fashion Week.

Lara, 31, looked impeccable in a form-fitting black dress and matching blazer and added to her height with a pair of gold-heeled stilettos. The blonde beauty, who has a two-year-old son Alfred with her ex-husband, kept her poker straight locks parted down the middle and added just a slick of colour to her look with coral lipstick.

The day before a judge at London's Central Family Court granted David and Lara a decree nisi on the grounds of the model's "unreasonable behaviour", which court papers said was "continuing". The news means that David and Lara's union will now be officially dissolved in six weeks time – six months after the couple decided to split.
