Taylor Swift has been joined onstage by the likes of Selena Gomez, John Legend and Little Mix throughout her 1989 world tour, but one celebrity who says she won't be joining the list is Rihanna. Speaking to NME magazine, the Umbrella singer said it wouldn't make sense for her to perform with Taylor.

"I don't think I would, I just don't think it makes sense," Rihanna explained. "I don't think our brands are the same. I don't think they match."

The 27-year-old added that she and Taylor appeal to different audiences.

"I don't think our audiences are the same. In my mind, she's a role model, I'm not."

Taylor shouldn't be too disheartened by Rihanna's comments; the Shake it Off singer has previously performed with her "hero" Julia Roberts, Mary J Blige and model friends Karlie Kloss, Gigi Hadid and Martha Hunt to name but a few. She has also been cheered on by celebrity fans including Ben Affleck, Reese Witherspoon and Jessica Alba.

Rihanna says she isn't a role model but Taylor is

While Taylor has yet to collaborate with her boyfriend Calvin Harris on a track, Rihanna has – the pair recorded the hit We Found Love together in 2011.

It is not the first time Rihanna has spoken out about her opinion on being called a role model; she previously told USA Today that she has no intention of offering guidance to her young fans.

"I can't really say I'm a role model. I'm not perfect. I'm not trying to sell that," she explained. "I want people to have fun but be responsible, protect themselves and be in control of your life. You can never judge people. I always made that a point. You never know what someone is going through."

Her attitude is in contrast to Taylor, who previously said she was "conscious" of being a role model to young girls and made sure she chose her actions "carefully".

"I'm not uncomfortable with it," she told Kelly Ripa on Live! With Kelly. "You have to be conscious of that. If you're choosing to put out music and be out there in the public, you have to be conscious of the fact that you are a part of the raising of the next generation and you do have an impact on that.

"So choose your outfits and your words and your actions carefully. I think it matters. I think it really does."
