Early this month David announced his return to football also via the social media page. "I never thought that I would be putting my boots back on but it’s for a great cause, the incredible work of @unicef for children. I’m honoured to be playing at Old Trafford again, captaining a Great Britain & Ireland team managed by the great Sir Alex Ferguson against a Rest of the World side captained by my friend @zidane and managed by the legend @mrancelotti I hope to see you there @manchesterunited on November 14th. "Earlier this week David opened up about his football training buddy and one of the most popular teenagers on the planet, his son Brooklyn. Speaking during a radio appearance the former England footballer said that his son is now the one that people want photos with. "We normally get people coming up and saying, ‘would you mind taking a picture with me?’ And they’re actually talking to Brooklyn rather than myself. And I’m the one that takes the picture!"

Brooklyn’s ever growing popularity has led to protective father David, to have a talk to his son about relationships. "I’ve definitely given him relationship advice" he said but admitted that the teenager was left red-faced when his mum Victoria got involved with the chat about girls. "But Victoria was in the room and we kind of had a chuckle and he was kind of looking at me as if to say, ‘why are you doing this in front of mum?!’"
