Amber Heard took on the role of stepmum earlier this year when she married Johnny Depp after three years of dating. In a new interview the Magic Mike XXL star has opened up about life with her husband's children – 16-year-old daughter Lily-Rose and 13-year-old son Jack.

"It's an honour and the greatest, most surprising gift I have ever received in my life," Amber told Marie Claire.

"I feel new flavours that I didn't know existed. New colours that I didn't know existed have been added to my life. I'm so happy."

Amber Heard married Johnny Depp earlier this year

Amber and Johnny, 52, married in February in a civil ceremony at their home in Los Angeles. The couple held a second wedding in the actor's private island in the Bahamas in the same month.

Despite being married to one of Hollywood's richest stars, Amber insisted that the notion of being supported by someone is "absurd" to her, and that she doesn't need to rely on money for happiness.

"You respect what it takes to earn it [money], and it also gives you a certain resilience, because it minimises this false notion that that's what matters," said Amber. "I know that to not be true, and I know I'm fine without it."

The actress has spoken out abour her relationship with Johnny's children

"That's why maybe I'm so independent. I never expect anyone to give me anything – the notion of someone supporting me would be absurd to me."

Before dating Johnny, Amber made headlines for coming out as bisexual and for her three-year relationship with photographer Tasya van Ree. But the actress prefers not to be labelled.

"No matter what people want to label me as, I still fight for equality, and I think popular opinion will catch up," she said. "I think it already has, actually."
