Sinead O'Connor stable in hospital, friend confirms

Sinead O'Connor is being cared for in hospital and is in a stable condition, a friend of the singer has confirmed. Sinead was found by police on Sunday afternoon after posting a series of disturbing messages on Facebook stating she had taken an overdose.Her friend, singer Mary Coughlan has said that Sinead was unconscious when she was located by police in Dublin, but is expected to make a full recovery. "Sinead is not in any danger and is receiving medical assistance," Mary wrote on Facebook, adding that the star's children are being cared for by family and close friends.

Another Irish musician, Aslan's Christy Dignam, also spoke out this week to offer his support to troubled Sinead. Speaking to the Irish Mirror, Christy extended an invitation for the star to stay with him once she is released from hospital. "I know Sinead, she's a lovely, lovely girl and she's going through a lot. This could be somewhere for her to recharge her batteries," he said.Sinead sparked international concern at the weekend when a post appeared on her official Facebook page saying she had "taken an overdose". The singer, who is best known for her 1990 hit Nothing Compares To You, made the announcement in a 450-word message, which began: "There is only so much a woman can be expected to bear."She told fans: "The last two nights have finished me off. I have taken an overdose. There is no other way to get respect. I am not at home, I’m at a hotel, somewhere in Ireland, under another name."

Sinead, 48, was unconscious when she was found, but is making a full recovery

The police later confirmed that the 48-year-old performer had been "found safe and well".Sinead have spoken openly about her mental health issues in the past. She suffers from bipolar disorder, and has been hospitalised on a number of occasions.The star is a mother of four; she first became pregnant when she was just 20. She had a son Jake and married his father, musician John Reynolds. After they broke up, she began a relationship with political journalist John Waters, the father of her second child Roisin.Sinead's next marriage in 2002 was to journalist Nick Sommerlad.Her third child, Shane, was with another singer, Donal Lunny, and nine-year-old son Yeshua is the result of a romance with American businessman Frank Bonadio.In 2011, she married drug counsellor Barry Herridge; they split 16 days later, but reunited.
