Celine Dion will return to Las Vegas on Wednesday for a very special cause. The 47-year-old will attend a memorial service for her husband René Angélil, who passed away in January after a long battle of cancer.

The service will be hosted at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace – the venue where Celine has a residency show. While further details have not been released about the memorial, Celine is not expected to perform or speak at the service. Instead she will join fellow mourners to celebrate the life of her husband, who died aged 73.

Celine cancelled all Las Vegas performances until 23 February following her husband's death, and the loss of her brother Daniel just two days later. She has been grieving privately with her three sons, Rene-Charles, 15, and five-year-old twins Eddy and Nelson, but penned an emotional open letter to fans on Friday to thank them for their support.

Writing on her official website, Celine said: "My family and I are deeply touched by the outpouring of love and support from so many people who have touched our lives during these past few days.

"We have felt your love for René, and your prayers and compassion have helped us during this most difficult time... more than you'll ever know. I thank you from the bottom of my heart."

Celine's beloved husband of 21 years was laid to rest in a public funeral held at the Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal on 24 January, with her eldest son giving a moving eulogy to his father during the televised service.

The following day Celine paid her final respects to her older brother Daniel at a private memorial service. However the mum-of-three was said to be too grief-stricken to attend his funeral service, with a source revealing that she felt unable to go through any more public mourning.
