Daniel Radcliffe reveals why he won't be watching the new Harry Potter play

Daniel Radcliffe has admitted that while he is "intrigued" by Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, he's unlikely to ever watch the play in person.  The 26-year-old shared his thoughts on the new production during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert this week, telling his host: "I feel like I want to see the show. I am genuinely intrigued and I've heard it's fantastic.

"But I just feel that sitting in an audience of what will, for most of the near future, be very enthusiastic Harry Potter fans might be not a relaxing way to see the show! So, not for the time being, but I've heard it's fantastic."

Daniel went on to praise actor Jamie Parker, who is playing grown-up Harry in the stage show. "He's a wonderful actor. I'm very happy to see him play me," the star said. "He can do all the Harry questions now!"

It's not the first time Daniel has shared his reservations about seeing the play. Speaking to E! News last week, he said: "It would be a weird one. I could be completely wrong in this, but I feel like if I went to see it that night, there's going to be a lot of Harry Potter fans there in the audience obviously, and would that then become a thing?

Jamie Parker stars as grown-up Harry in the play, with Poppy Miller playing wife Ginny Weasley and Sam Clemmett as their son Albus

"Would it be more about them watching me watch the show, or would it take away from the show? I would never want to do anything that would distract or take away from the show."

The new play, which previewed last week and will open at the end of July, has set a new record by selling a staggering 175,000 tickets in just 24 hours. The story is set 19 years after the ending of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and follows Harry Potter, now a Ministry of Magic employee, and his younger son Albus Severus Potter.
