All Jamie Redknapp wants nowadays is cuddles from his kids. The proud dad to Charley, 11, and Beau, seven, tells HELLO!: "There's nothing better than a good old cuddle. My 11-year-old is getting nearly as big as me now and if he puts his arms around me I feel a million dollars. "The 42-year-old ex-England footballer, who is a regular on the James Corden-hosted panel show A League of Their Own, recently backed the Braun Father's Day campaign urging children to show how much their dad means to them. For Jamie, who is married to singer and presenter Louise, fatherhood is a real joy. "From the moment you wake up to coming in at night and popping in to see them, it’s all great," he says. "Every day there's something different and the stuff they come out with is comedy genius.

Jamie Redknapp says that a hug from his son makes him feel 'a million dollars'

"Don't get me wrong. There are ups and downs and I'm sure every parent will agree that it's challenging and it's scary because every year that goes by they get closer to being teenagers and closer to going out with their friends and closer to drinking. You just try to bring them up the right way and steer them in the right direction like my dad did with me. "Jamie, Louise and the kids spent Father's Day on 19 June with his football manager dad Harry at his home in Sandbanks, Dorset. In previous years, the boys have gone off to play a round of golf before sitting down for Sunday lunch with Louise and Jamie’s mum Sandra.

Jamie is close to his dad. "When it comes to parenting I just try to follow the relationship I have with my dad. We speak every day on the phone and he’s my best mate. If I can create that love I have with my dad for me and my kids then I'll have done a pretty good job."

Jamie and Louise have been married since 1998

Louise, he adds, is "fantastic with the kids and they adore her", but the pair make sure to factor in romantic breaks, like their trip to Berlin in April. "It's important for any relationship, whether it's a night or a few days, to grab some time together," Jamie says. The recent A League of Their Own US Road Trip spin-off show – a second series of which has just been announced – took Jamie further afield – namely to the US to see his friend James, who has been a big success as host of talkshow The Late Late Show."I knew he'd do well because he's fun and clever and he can sing and dance," says Jamie. "I'm extremely proud of him. "James, meanwhile, has yet to ask Jamie to join him on his hugely popular carpool karaoke segment – but with good reason. "I'm terrible," he laughs. "Can't sing, can't dance, but we all think we can when we get in the shower, don't we?"
