Serena Williams might be the queen of the tennis court, but last week she came face-to-face with actual royalty. Before winning her 22nd Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, the 34-year-old met with the Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, and the Countess of Wessex – and now she is sharing more details about their encounter.

On Monday, the tennis ace took to Facebook to share photos from her time in London – including a new snapshot showing her with the British royals. "I had so much fun this past 2 weeks," Serena wrote alongside the collection of images. "Winning my 22nd grand slam title is something I will forever cherish."

She continued: "Although some part of me is thinking about this hectic summer that includes the Olympics and the US Open, I am going to take a deep breath to enjoy this historic moment. Here are some pics from the past 2 weeks I want to share with you. Enjoy. Love you all."

Serena's photo taken with Kate and Sophie shows the British royals standing either side of the athlete, both beaming for the camera.  Kate looks bright and vibrant in her Roksanda Ilincic yellow block dress, while Sophie is elegant in a cream blouse and a coral skirt.

Not only was Serena able to snag a photo with the royal ladies, but she famously also managed to film a fun clip of Kate and Sophie for Snapchat. "So I'm in the in-crowd now. I’m with royalty," the Wimbledon champion said, panning the camera to the Kate, who smiled before putting an arm around Sophie and bringing her into the shot, as the trio laughed together.

Speaking after her match, Serena said: "It was really nice to meet with them. I actually didn't know they were both here. It was really cool, we just had a chat about the matches. I was surprised - it was a good thing that I did not see that they were there, maybe I would have gotten a little nervous. But yeah, it was really cool."

That chance meeting wasn't Serena's first brush with royalty. She met the Duchess' husband Prince William backstage at the 2010 Australian Open, and also greeted the Queen later that same year at the All England Club.

Following her Snapchat debut on Serena's account, Kate returned to Wimbledon on Sunday with William to watch Andy Murray win his second Wimbledon title.
