The 52-year-old actress was previously married to actor Harry Hamlin in 1991, with Harry filing for divorce less than a year later. She has also been engaged twice before, to Swedish personal trainer Nicklas Soderblom, and to singer Michael Bolton, who she originally dated for five years before splitting in 1997, then reconciling and announcing their engagement in 2006. Their engagement was broken off permanently in 2008.

The actress is best known for her role as Edie Britt in Desperate Housewives, and received a Golden Globe Best Supporting Actress nomination for the role in 2005. However, Nicollette left the show on a bad note after her character was killed off, and filed a lawsuit against the show creator Marc Cherry, claiming that he had assaulted her on set and she was fired only when she reported it to the network. The case was dismissed in 2013.

At the time, Nicollette's co-star Eva Longoria said of the case: "I love Nicollette and I love Marc Cherry, and I love our work environment. It's a stain on our legacy as a hit show. It was just unfortunate, the whole thing."

The actress is not to only famous face to have split from her partner this July, as Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney reportedly called off their engagement last week, Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger split after a ten-year relationship, and Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin finalised their divorce after their "conscious uncoupling" in 2014.
