Reese Witherspoon has shared a sweep snap and birthday message for her daughter Ava, who celebrated her 17th birthday on Friday.

Ava showed her natural beauty in the photo by wearing no make-up and leaving her long blonde hair straight. The 17-year-old was clad in a summer dress and matching cardigan as she sat at the dining table of their family home.

The mother-of-three captioned the snap: "Can't believe my baby is 17 today! I love you,@avaphillippe Your gorgeous heart and loving spirit never cease to amaze me! I'm so lucky the universe let me be your mother. #HBD #17DancingQueen."

Ava, who is Reese's only daughter, also shared a snap for her birthday, writing: "it's my birthday? well thank you to the wonderful people who guided me to who I am today. sure, it's 'my day,' but you are what has made up every single day for me since 9/9/99, and, according to me, you should also be celebrated for all the energy, wisdom, and support you've put into this now-17-year-old. oh yeah, and I'm allowed to be cheesy, 'cause it's my birthday."

Reese, who was 23-years-old when she gave birth to Ava, opened up to Glamour magazine about motherhood, saying: "I didn't know what I was doing. I was young. It was shocking. When people ask, 'When's the best time to get pregnant?' I say, 'Pick the best day for when your entire life is gonna change.' There's no good time to have your world turned upside down.
