Holly Willoughby struggled to hold back tears on Thursday's airing of This Morning as she was reunited with a man who lost his wife to cancer. Holly welcomed author St John Greene, who she last met in 2012, to the show.

The pair spoke about his book, The Mum's List, which was inspired by his wife's cancer battle and has been transformed into a film. St John, or Singe as he is known, was left to care for the couple's two sons when Kate died aged 37. She left Singe a list of 100 instructions to help him raise their boys, which included points like "Take the boys diving in Belize" and "Kiss the boys goodnight x2".

Holly Willoughby looked visibly tearful on This Morning

Listening to what Singe had to say, Holly, who has three children of her own, became visibly tearful and welled up. "This list and this legacy for the boys and how they should live their lives, it was a list for us to do in our old age," said Singe. "But it's actually affected so many people around the planet. Everybody, make your own list! It's so cool."

The presenter spoke to St John Greene who wrote The Mum's List

"I think that's why everyone needs to watch this film because… when I was watching last night, her message is that every moment is so important. You just don't know…" said Holly, blinking back tears.

Her fellow co-host Ore Oduba, who was presenting This Morning for the first time, saw her reaction and said: "Tissues!"

St John and his two sons appeared on the show, alongside Emilia Fox

Emilia Fox, who plays Kate in the adapted movie, also made an appearance, admitting that it was difficult to film the poignant scenes. "It was, it was… because the list is so identifiable," she said. "Every little bit of ordinary life is so extraordinary. That's what I love so much about Kate, every bit of life is precious."
