Shannen Doherty has revealed she has started her radiation treatment as she continues with her battle against cancer. Taking to her social media pages on Monday, the brave actress shared a picture of herself at hospital, confessing she was "frightened" about undergoing the difficult procedure for the first time.

"First day of radiation treatment," she wrote in the caption. "I look like I'm about to make a run for it which is accurate. Radiation is frightening to me. Something about not being able to see the laser, see the treatment and having this machine moving around you just scares me. I'm sure I'll get used to it but right now.... I hate it. #radiation #radiationmondaysucks #stillfightinglikeagirl."

The Beverly Hills, 90210 star was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and she has since been documenting her fight against the disease on social media. She has previously undergone a mastectomy and chemotherapy. Last month, Shannen - who is married to film producer Kurt Iswarienko - opened up about how she is coping with her illness.

"I think what's beautiful and hard and interesting about cancer is that it tears you down and builds you, and tears you down and builds you," she told Chelsea Handler on Netflix's Chelsea. "It remakes you so many different times. The person I thought I was supposed to be or was going to be or who I thought I was six months ago is now somebody completely different." The 45-year-old continued: "Cancer is not pleasant but it can bring out the best in relationships or the worse. Thankfully, it has made our marriage stronger."

Earlier this month, Shannen was honoured at the American Concert Society's annual gala in Los Angeles where she confessed her breast cancer diagnosis has actually changed her life "for the better". She told Press Association: "I'm feeling ridiculously lucky and very blessed. Cancer has changed my life for the better. It's made me a better human being. It stripped away all of the walls and barriers."

She added: "It exposes any lie in your life whatsoever. It exposes who's not really there for you and who really is there for you. It's this brilliant thing where you just look around and think, 'Oh my god, this person is amazing, they're showing up for me in a way I never expected.' It's this amazing thing where you look at people and realise their worth and what good hearts they have because they're not running. That's what cancer does. It strips everything where everyone, including you, is laid bare."
