Alex Jones and husband Charlie Thomson's loved-up moments on Instagram

Viewers on The One Show are missing presenter Alex Jones, who is currently on maternity leave, having given birth to her first child last month. She and her husband Charlie Thomson welcomed their baby boy on Sunday 22 January, with Alex confirming the news on Instagram.

The new mum also confirmed the happy news live on the BBC show via a phone call, saying that both she and Charlie have been in "heaven". "We are absolutely delighted and completely in love with him," said Alex. "It's the most wonderful feeling. He was 7lbs 11oz – a lovely weight. It was all very straightforward. Charlie was with me and mum and dad were in the waiting room. The last four days have been heaven. We're in this bubble the three of us. It's just the best time."

Alex also delighted Instagram fans when she shared the first snap of her baby boy, uploading a gorgeous photo of his hand wrapped around her finger.

On their first wedding anniversary, a heavily pregnant Alex shared a gorgeous photo of the couple taking their first steps as husband and wife. "A year ago today we became husband and wife," she wrote. "How we wish we could do it all over again!! Thanks to our families and friends for making it the best day we could have ever imagined. Diolch. #1stweddinganniversary #soulmate #loveofmylife #nyewedding."

The Welsh beauty also revealed that Charlie had given her a beautiful photo of the couple kissing at sunset. "1st anniversary gift. A picture Charlie took of us at sunset in the #joshuatreenationalpark on our first big trip together. #paper#1stweddinganniversary#happymemories," she wrote.

Two thousand and sixteen became even more exciting for the couple when Alex announced that they were expecting their first child. Alongside a photo of a babygro that read 'Coming soon', Alex revealed: "Charlie and I are very happy to confirm that we're expecting a little baby in the New Year. Absolutely delighted and feel very lucky that we're about to become parents. #andbreatheout #newbabyalert."

Hands-on new dad Charlie also helped build the baby's crib.

As well as announcing her son's birth on The One Show, Alex also took to Instagram to reveal: "So happy to let you know that our beautiful baby son was born on Sunday morning weighing 7lbs11 and with a full head of dark hair. Charlie and I are head over heels in love. A special thank you to the amazing midwives in the Queen Charlotte hospital for everything you did for us. We are so excited and grateful to be in the parent club."

She may not have revealed her son's name, but Alex has shared the cutest first photo of her little bundle of joy, or her "obsession" as she calls him.

On Valentine's Day, Alex was presented a gorgeous bouquet of red roses from her husband. She updated fans on her baby boy, writing: "It's definitely not all about hearts and flowers but they were appreciated this morning after a long night of feeding. #valentines#newmother."

In the weeks leading up to her son's birth, Alex shared a photo of her hubby and their pet hamster. "My boys. #husbandandhamster #love," she wrote. Now Alex can add a third boy to her list – her newborn son!

The pair are both avid travellers and have flown everywhere from Greece to Sri Lanka. One of their first holidays together was to South East Asia, where Alex and Charlie explored Cambodia and Vietnam.

During the two-week trip, Alex treated fans to a black-and-white photo of her then husband-to-be. She joked: "My travel companion looking earnest....but probably just wondering what time lunch will be served. #indochina."

While Alex's job takes her all around the world, the globetrotter also finds time to travel with her husband. The couple hopped over to Gothenburg, Sweden for a winter city break last year and in a rare move, Alex uploaded a selfie of the pair, delighting fans.

Alongside the photo of Alex and Charlie looking perfectly relaxed and rested, she wrote: "A perfect weekend in Gothenburg."

A few months after their New Year's wedding, Alex and Charlie ventured to Sri Lanka. Their magical getaway involved visiting a national park, a safari trip and an excursion to a tea factory.

But most impressive of all was Alex and Charlie's gruelling hike up Sigiriya, also known as The Lion Rock of Sri Lanka. "This morning's mission is to get to the top of this. It's the 8th wonder of the ancient world," wrote Alex, adding "#getasweaton".

During a whale watching excursion, the couple celebrated their first sighting with a hilarious selfie from their boat. "Early morning whale watching! Celebrating after spotting our first blue whale. #nature #wildlife #srilanka," wrote Alex.

While she tends to keep her private life out of the spotlight, Alex does sometimes share photos of her husband. One of her earlier snaps showed Charlie at CarFest, a festival that raises money for BBC Children in Need.

The picture proved a hit with Alex's fans, with one commenting, "Ch cha Charlie total legend!" and another writing, "Hello Charlie Bear! Xx."

The lovebirds stayed in a majestic castle during the bank holiday weekend. Alex revealed: "Visiting some friends at their new home. #casual."
