Simon Cowell was the victim of a terrifying raid back in December 2015, which saw the culprit steal thousands of pounds worth of jewellery from his Holland Park home while he was asleep upstairs with his young son, Eric, and partner Lauren Silverman. On Wednesday, his burglar was sent to prison for eight years. The news will come as a slight comfort to the X Factor star, who spoke about his fear for Eric, had the burglar entered his bedroom that night. In a statement at the Iselworth Crown Court, he said: "This incident has caused me great concerns about the security of my family. On reflection I am very scared of what could have happened to my son if the burglar had gone into his room. I could not bear to think of the consequences and also a lot would have happened if the burglar had come into our room."

The proud dad often speaks about his love for his only son, who celebrated his third birthday on February 14 with a lavish dinosaur-themed party, attended by his friends, including Katie Piper’s young daughter, Belle. The party, held at the prestigious members-only Arts Club in central London looked to be a great success, with Katie posting snaps of the event over on her Instagram account, where an enthusiastic Simon is seen giving the thumbs up sign to a rather realistic looking dinosaur.

Since Eric has been born, fans have seen a far softer side of Simon, who recently came to the aid of a Britain’s Got Talent contestant after they collapsed on stage during their audition. The singer, Luke, was performing Frank Sinatra's My Way with his mum Mary, 52, when he fell to the floor. An audience member told The Sun at the time: "His granddad died that day and combined with the stress of auditions, it really got to him. It was incredibly scary. Luke was singing with his mum and suddenly he just fell. All of the judges jumped to their feet, and Simon rushed on stage." The witness added that Simon "thanked the audience for being compassionate".
