Shannen Doherty reveals her cancer is in remission

Shannen Doherty took to Instagram to share the happy news that she is now in remission after undergoing treatment for breast cancer. The 46-year-old revealed her diagnosis in March 2015 and has been updating fans on social media with her progress ever since.

"Moments. They happen. Today was and is a moment," she told her more than 900, 000 followers in a recent post. "What does remission mean? I heard that word and have no idea how to react. Good news? YES. Overwhelming. YES. Now more waiting."

She went on to describe how her journey into recovery will unfold and how grateful she is to celebrate this special milestone. "As every single one of my fellow cancer family knows, the next five years is crucial. Reoccurrences happen all the time. Many of you have shared that very story with me. So with a heart that is certainly lighter, I wait. In the meantime, decisions. Reconstruction which is several surgeries. Decision on taking a pill for the next five years that comes with its own set of problems and side effects."

Shannen looked in high spirits at a charity gala in March

Shannen has always been very open about her emotional and challenging cancer battle and never shied away from sharing photos from the hospital after undergoing rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. "I am blessed, I know that," she wrote. "But for now.... remission. I'm going to just breathe. #cancerslayer"

In March, the former Beverly Hills, 90210 star made her first public appearance after competing chemotherapy treatment at the Animal Hope & Wellness Foundation's first Gratitude Gala. The actress was in high spirits as she stepped out in a chic black dress and with her hair fully regrown following her gruelling cancer treatment.
