Javier Bardem has opened up about dating his wife Penelope Cruz, admitting that he took a moment to question whether he wanted to be with the star on account of her passionate personality. Speaking to GQ, he said: "Oh, boy. She has that feistiness. There are those scenes [in Vicky Cristina Barcelona] where we are arguing, she's throwing plates and so on. I had to wonder, 'Do I really want this?' She has what I call the loving blood. Passion for everything.'" However, he then added: "That's what I find attractive. There is beauty and there is being sexy. Penelope has both."

Penelope and Javier wed in 2010

The pair, who now share two children, wed in 2010, two years after meeting on the set of the Woody Allen film. During the interview, Javier also spoke about how much he hates violence after being involved in a fight in his youth. The Skyfall actor said: "From that moment on, I couldn't stand violence. I still can't even watch it. I can't bear it. So if I hate violence so much why did I do No Country For Old Men, right? I know, I know. But you should have seen me off camera, playing Anton on that movie... when the camera stopped rolling I would beg the Coen brothers 'please take that gun out of my face guys, please...'. Man, they would be laughing their asses off. I love them, they're geniuses. But it was tough. And I'll never forgive them for that damn haircut."

Penelope previously dated Tom Cruise and Matthew McConaughey before meeting Javier, and spoke about her relationships during an interview with The Telegraph. "I've never fallen in love with someone I'm working with," she said at the time. "It's always been afterwards. If something becomes friendship, then maybe months later it becomes something else, but you can never know. It's always a mystery. You can't plan those things." Woody Allen also praised her performance while making the film where she met her husband, saying: "She has everything. She's very sexy, is very, very beautiful and she's also a great actress who can get a laugh if you need a laugh or be tempestuous if that's what you need. There are no limits on her career."
