On Saturday, the 78-year-old designer paid homage to her beloved Reinaldo on her Instagram. Alongside a black-and-white split image of herself and her nephew, the Venezuelan native wrote: "Thank you so much for all your thoughtful messages. The family and I appreciate your kindness. Our only hope is that the tragic assassination of our young nephew, Reinaldo and his colleague, Fabrizio will serve to mitigate the terrible carnage and murders that are committed against our youth in Venezuela. The Electoral Results must be respected. The Communist Dictatorship must go. -Carolina Herrera."

Hola! US reported that, according to official sources, Reinaldo and Fabrizio, 31, were having dinner last Thursday at a restaurant in Caracas when an armed gang of criminals abducted them. The gang then allegedly asked for ransom for the two men. Despite it being paid by their respective families, Reinaold and Fabrizio were killed. The young entrepreneurs were found inside a white pickup truck on the Caracas-La Guaira highway.

The family issued a statement to CNN en Español, which shows how truly shocked they were by the tragedy. When translated to English, their statement reads: "Carolina and Reinaldo Herrera and their family are deeply devastated by this tragedy. They are not available for future comment. The family asks for privacy."

Reinaldo and Fabrizio's causes of death and the name of the criminal band suspected of their murders have yet to be revealed by the authorities. 2016 reports show that Venezuela has one of the highest murder rates in the entire world, with 70 homicides per 100 thousand people. The South American country is among the list of the most dangerous nations.
