Initially the entire Beckham family were expected to relocate to the Spanish capital when David signed on with Real Madrid. But for the first season Victoria and the couple's two children remained based in the UK.
Following allegations of infidelity and rumours the soccer ace would be taking up a role with Chelsea, however, the couple announced in May 2004 that they would finally be embarking on a life together in Spain.
While the country's blue skies will make a welcome change, there will be many challenges ahead. Having already adapted to a different language, climate, society and culture during the last year, Becks is ideally placed to help smooth his loved ones' transition into their new home.
