Hailed as Australia's next global star and drawing comparisons for both her looks and talent to fellow Aussie Nicole Kidman, Abbie Cornish has a lot to live up to. But if 2006 was about getting her noticed - with a lead role in the hard-hitting Candy alongside Heath Ledger and a sexy turn in A Good Year opposite Russell Crowe - 2007 looks set to establish her as one of the silver screen's most in-demand actresses.

The stunning 24-year-old, who grew up on her parents' Hunter Valley farm outside Sydney, will star in The Golden Age - the sequel to Shekhar Kapur's 1998 hit Elizabeth. In the film she plays Elizabeth I's lady-in-waiting Bess Throckmorton, who incurs the wrath of the monarch (played again by Cate Blanchett) when Clive Owen's Sir Walter Raleigh falls for her. She will also be seen opposite Ryan Phillippe, with whom she has been romantically linked since the breakdown of his marriage to Reese Witherspoon, in a US-set Iraq War veterans' drama.
