A taste of Wales as St David's Day nears
Get inspired by St David's Day on March 1 and have a go at a classic Welsh roast like this Lamb with rosemary and garlic
If you're looking for inspiration in the kitchen this weekend, why not try a typical Welsh delicacy in honour of St David's Day, which falls on Sunday, March 1?
While Welsh cuisine may bring to mind familiar favourites like lamb and leek - the latter of which has enjoyed a long association with Wales' patron Saint David due to its healing qualities - there are a host of wonderful new recipes around, too. These combine the traditional ingredients associated with Welsh cuisine with modern additions, such as new local cheeses, in new and interesting combinations.
Chicken, Leek, Prune and Caerphilly Pie, for example, uses crumbled Caerphilly to add a deliciously different flavour to a puff-pastry delight. Or, if you prefer a tried and tested classic, Roast Welsh Lamb with Rosemary and Garlic may be more up your street.
There a little Welsh culinary action on the doorstep, too, for residents of the capital. On Friday, February 27, The True Taste festival in St Christopher's Place, just off Oxford Street, offers a taste of the best the Principality has to offer as local producers showcase their wares, from perfect puds to delicious pates.
