Angela Hartnett rose to fame as ‘the’ woman that worked alongside Gordon Ramsay; she worked for him for many years and then went on to run her own very successful restaurant, Murano. After numerous tv appearances, books followed and the latest is without doubt, the best.
A Taste of Home sees Angela veer away from the high flying culinary techniques she is obviously skilled in and take on the home kitchen. Her style is informal and grounded and her recipes draw on a childhood spent with an Italian grandmother, meaning Mediterranean techniques and ideas pop up regularly. This is home-style cooking at its best, with a knack and a flair for creativity that means the recipes aren’t often things we’ve seen before.
Whether you’re after ideas for lunch with friends or a quick post-work supper, all the bases are appetisingly covered with recipes like beef stew with butternut squash and red onions, rabbit with fennel, olives and rosemary to traditional Italian basics like spaghetti with puttanesca sauce. Desserts are given a fair weight too – from the likes of ginger crème brulee to honey-baked orange with rosemary.
A Taste of Home by Angela Hartnett published by Ebury Press, RRP £25
