Pregnant model Abbey Clancy joined TV presenter Jonathan Ross, fashion expert Gok Wan and beauty blogger-turned internet sensation Zoe Sugg, also known as Zoella, for the second episode of the Great Comic Relief Bake Off on Wednesday evening. The celebrities donned their aprons and gave it their best shot in the GBBO gazebo as their baked goods were judged by baking queen Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood.
The four hopefuls cooked up a storm in aid of Comic Relief, and also appeared to have a great time as they faced their challenges – later sharing a series of photos on social media.
In the countdown to the episode being aired, Zoella even tweeted that she would love to be reunited with the other bakers: "Kinda wish I could be sat with @wossy @therealgokwan @OfficialClancy so we can all laugh at ourselves together! #GBBOComicRelief", wrote the 23-year-old.
There wasn’t a dull moment in the gazebo as the foursome tackled a traditional recipe in the signature challenge – 24 cupcakes – which saw Zoella cook banana and caramel cupcakes, Jonathan Ross aim high with cupcakes that were "Lapsang Chousang flavoured" and Abbey win the round with rainbow cupcakes.
Gok Wan took the next technical challenge though, baking 20 "lovely" profiteroles that won the approval of both Mary and Paul.
When it came to the show-stopper challenge, the media personalities flaunted their creative skills by creating a marble cake inspired by their favourite building.
While Mary recommended something simple "like a shed", Gok and Abbey rose to the challenge by re-creating The Shard, Jonathan tried his hand at a cake in the shape of the Royal Albert Hall and Zoella made a beach hut.
Abbey expertly exercised her trouble-shooting skills by putting her cake together with several dozen toothpicks, and Zoella's beach hut gave Mary a surprise when it came to tasting – she needed a glass of water after choking on a piece of cake.
The episode, which was presented by Mel Giedroyc, saw Gok crowned as Star Baker after his chocolate tower Shard sprayed in metallic gold topped the competition.
The celebrity stylist will appear alongside Jennifer Saunders and two more, as yet unknown, celebrities on a special edition of The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice, which will air on Red Nose Day, 13 March.
