The cereal is available for a limited time from 17 September and costs £2.79 per 375g. It is the second magical confection to launch this week, following behind ASDA's new Madeira sponge Unicorn cake, which has already proved incredibly popular online.

The birthday cake, which costs £10, was promoted on the supermarket's Facebook page last week, and has already attracted close to a million views and 13,000 comments, with many sharing their photos after rushing out to buy it. "My nearly 3 year old was adamant she wasn't having a birthday this year, didn't want presents and didn't want cake until she saw this cake!" one commented. Another added: "Wow, want one. Just gorgeous."

The unicorn food trend has been ongoing for the past few months, with Starbucks' limited edition Unicorn Frappuccinos one of the most popular takes on the craze. The super-sweet confection featured a blend of colourful pink and blue syrups and was widely shared on social media after customers rushed out to try one. However not everyone is a fan of the trend; Gordon Ramsay weighed in on the mythical food craze in May, telling PopSugar: "Unicorns are meant for children's tales, not food."
