Celebrities go on Nordstrom shopping spree following Donald Trump's tweet

Celebrities have been sharing photos of themselves shopping at the US department store chain Nordstrom after President Donald Trump publicly criticised them for dropping his daughter Ivanka's brand, claiming that she had been treated "unfairly". Since the angry tweet from the 45th President of the United States, celebrities have been supporting the department store in protest, with stars including Chelsea Handler, RuPaul and Mia Farrow promising to take trips to the store. Sharing a photo of herself with two friends outside of the White House while holding several Nordstorm bags, Chelsea tweeted: "A Gay, a Muslim, and a Jew hit Nordstrom and then hit @WhiteHouse to give the finger to @realDonaldTrump" while Mia added: "I've never plugged a store but Nordstrom is great."

Nordstrom responded to the President's tweet by claiming that the decision to drop Ivanka's brand wasn't political, but because of poor sales. The statement read: "This was a decision made entirely based on brand performance. We've said all along we make buying decisions based on performance. We've got thousands of brands — more than 2,000 offered on the site alone. Reviewing their merit and making edits is part of the regular rhythm of our business . . . In this case, based on the brand's performance we've decided not to buy it for this season." Several other retailers have also dropped the mother-of-three's clothing line, including T.J.Maxx, the Home Shopping Network and Marshalls.

Donald Trump aide Kellyanne Conway has also come under fire after she endorsed Ivanka's brand during an interview with Fox News, which appeared to violate an ethics rule to prevent federal employees to use their public office for endorsements. Addressing the news that Nordstrom had dropped her brand, she said: "Go buy Ivanka's stuff. I'm going to go get some myself today. I'm going to give a free commercial here: Go buy it today, everybody."
