Zendaya stole the spotlight in a retro ensemble at the 2017 InStyle Awards on Monday night. The Spider-Man: Homecoming actress led a parade of celebrities at the fashion event, held at the Getty Center in Los Angeles, and took home the award for Style Star, which was presented to her by stylist Law Roach. Zendaya opted for a red, purple and navy tiered tulle gown from Schiaparelli, and accessorised with red satin Casadei high heels and gold jewellery. She completed the ensemble by having her dark brown hair styled into a chic afro.

Another young performer to make a splash was Elle Fanning, who took home the Breakthrough Style Star award at the party. The Beguiled actress sported a colourful Pop Art-inspired dress from Versace, which was printed with images of Marilyn Monroe and James Dean's faces. Elle completed her look with high heels made from the same fabric and wore a bold swipe of lime green eyeshadow on her eyelids.

"Fashion has been something that's just always inspired me and been such a big kind of creative outlet for me to be able to tell my story, tell my personality through what I want to wear that day," she said in her acceptance speech, where she also thanked her stylist Samantha McMillen and her mother Heather Joy Arrington.

Demi Lovato, who received the Advocate Award, made a sartorial statement in a lavender gown from Alice + Olivia, which featured a studded belt at the waist. The singer complemented her look with matching lilac eye make-up and added a hint of sparkle through the addition of silver Gianvito Rossi high heels.

Demi reunited with her fellow former Disney Channel star and pal Selena Gomez on the red carpet, where the two shared a big hug. Selena, who presented the Make-up Artist of the Year award to Hung Vanngo, opted for a minimal look, sporting a simple little black dress and strappy nude high heels.

Heidi Klum, January Jones, Phoebe Tonkin, Kelly Rowland, Kate Bosworth and Cate Blanchett were among the other stars also in attendance.
