As Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's wedding approaches on 19 May, the public are eagerly waiting to see the bride's gown and jewellery choices for the big day. In past royal weddings, there has been much excitement as to which tiara the bride will choose and this ceremony is no different. Will Meghan wear a piece from the Queen's personal tiara collection, an entirely new design, or will she break with tradition and go tiara free? One thing is certain however, the Cartier Halo tiara which the Duchess of Cambridge wore on her wedding to Prince William is definitely ruled out.

The stunning Cartier Halo tiara

Town & Country report that the stunning Cartier Halo tiara is not even in the UK on Meghan and Harry's wedding date. The famous piece of jewellery will be on show at Cartier: The Exhibition at the National Gallery of Australia from March 30 to July 22. So there's no way Meghan could wear the iconic tiara. The website reveals that the piece is on loan to the gallery by the Queen and the Royal Collection Trust. The gallery confirmed the news to publication.

We are all familiar with the Cartier Halo tiara from the Duchess of Cambridge's wedding day on 29 April 2011; she looked radiant in the piece, which was loaned to her for the day by the Queen. The beautiful tiara is named due to its halo shape and features over 800 diamonds. King George VI first commissioned Cartier to design the tiara for his wife, the Queen Mother in 1936, and it was then passed on to Queen Elizabeth on her 18th birthday. The piece has since been worn by other members of the royal family, including Princess Margaret, Princess Anne and of course, Duchess Kate.

All eyes will now be on Meghan to see which tiara she decides on, if at all. The Queen's tiara collection features some truly spectacular items, including the Lotus Flower tiara which once belonged to the Queen Mother. There is also the dazzling Cambridge Lover's Knot Tiara, which was the Queen's gift to Prince Harry's mother, Diana, Princess of Wales on her wedding day. Should Meghan opt to wear the Lover's Knot tiara it would be particularly poignant.
