Nude Kate shots to go under the hammer at Christie's

18 APRIL 2007

Kate Moss fans will have the opportunity to take home a memento of the supermodel's glittering career when rare shots of her are auctioned in London next month – if they can afford the price tags, of course.

The prints, which will go under the hammer at Christie's on May 31, include two portraits of the 33-year-old covergirl - a 1996 platinum print by American fashion snapper Irving Penn, and a giant, two-metre-square image by Scottish celebrity photographer Albert Watson. The images, which portray the model in the nude, are expected to raise £22,000 and £15,000, respectively.

A spokesman for the London auction house hailed the model as "a cultural icon and arguably the most influential model of our day".

Another highlight of the sale is an unpublished photo belonging to a pal of the model, which is expected to go for about £6,000. Shot by Corinne Day at a quarry in the Kate's Croydon home town, the image dates from the start of the fashion icon's career. It was taken just two years after she was discovered at a New York airport, when she was just 16.

Another shot by the same photographer, depicting a 19-year-old Kate dressed in briefs and a pink vest - an image credited for moving grunge into the mainstream - is also up for grabs.
