Catwalk queen Naomi scouting for new African models

21 AUGUST 2007

Supermodel Naomi Campbell is on the hunt for her successor. The catwalk queen, currently on holiday in southern Kenya, has spoken of her plans to invest in several charity and business ventures in the African country, including the opening of a modelling agency.

"I believe there are pretty girls from your lovely country who can grace the international catwalk and the front pages of international fashion magazines," she told local press, adding: "Anything which increases the pool of African talent is a good thing."

The 37-year-old catwalk queen, who has been modelling since she was 15, has begun contacting scouts to help set up a school to find and train youngsters to become models.

Any new recruits would be no doubt hoping to follow in the footsteps of former Africa-born success stories who have carved out successful careers in the world of fashion, including supermodel Alek Wek, who hails from southern Sudan, and Somalia-born beauty Iman, the wife of musician David Bowie.
